Sports Express 13-1
Sports Express Volleyball Club History

This team has been selected and is not accepting any new players.

The 13-1 team will be coached by Ginger Hineline.  Players for this team will be selected from tryouts held in late October.   We are discussing the need for an informational meeting before tryouts hit.  If you are interested in speaking to Ginger about this team please send us an email so we can talk to you.  We will not pursue any player who is a part of another club so you must make the 1st contact if you are interested.   Once the team is confirmed we will hold our informational meeting so everyone can meet and we can look at practice times.  We realize that many players will be participating on CYO teams over the winter and we will be sensitive to those situations.  We will, however, be creating a tournament schedule that may include 1 or 2 conflicts with CYO.  You will know this well in advance so that your CYO team is not blindsided by this.  We strongly support CYO volleyball and will try to mesh everyone's schedules as much as possible.

General Information

Tournaments:  The 13-1 group will be entering mostly top tier or larger tournaments such as the President's Cup, Central Zones, MidEast Qualifier, Ohio Valley Bid, Ohio Valley Regionals, and USA Nationals.  There will also be two OVR tourneys added to balance out the schedule.  We will not compete in a 2nd Qualifier unless the team needs to do so AND the parents agree that this is desired.  This will help us keep fees reasonable (if you can even say that these days).

Practices:  All practices will be held at Sports Express and will be determined by comparing schedules.  Sports Express is displacing other rentals when possible to accommodate these JO teams.  The 1st practices would be held in late November or early December so that everyone can meet and the coach can get a feel for their team.  We will not practice from mid-December through New Year's and then we will pick back up with once a week practices in January.  When tournaments are on the horizon we will settle into our twice a week practice schedule (4 hours total per week).

Fees:  Our fees will be determined once the tournament schedule is completed.  You should expect that we will use all of our resources to keep fees down.  We always get great prices on uniforms and we will not be charging an additional coaching stipend like other clubs.  Most National club teams in our area cost about $2000 but we are determined to try and make that number much lower.  IT WILL NOT BE HIGHER.  Players also have the opportunity to work off their club fees by volunteering their time at Sports Express.  Players can reduce their fees $7 for every hour they volunteer at the complex from January - April on weekends.  A typical shift is 6 hours long which cuts $42 off the fees.  We are also open to any fundraising ideas that the team wishes to pursue.  Each of our teams will also be given the chance to run a JO tourney at Sports Express on an off weekend which will cut an additional $700 off the total team price (optional).  It's also a chance to appreciate what goes into running a tourney (court prep, cleaning, concessions, score keeping, filling toilet paper dispensers, etc).

Goals:  As stated above, this team is being formed to compete Nationally while understanding that everyone has a life outside volleyball.  We want to coordinate schedules rather than dictate schedules and we want to work on keeping fees below any other comparable club.  This team will be formed with hopes that everyone has a great experience and wants to remain together for year's to come but also understanding that the competitive nature of this group will require a few changes as the years pass.

Benefits:  Since Sports Express is not only a JO Club but also an actual facility, coaches have access to extra court space when they need it.  This is invaluable when setters need extra training or players want to come in and work on their serve by themselves.  When a team needs to meet, we have a spot.  When you have a question you have an office to call.  When you need pre-wrap, socks, or active ankles, we have a store.  We'll even have updated team pages on our website with player profiles and videos.  We have been in business for 12 years and as you can tell we're planning on a lot more.  It has been 5 years since our club offered National teams.  That last Sports Express U18 team won the MidEast Qualifier, won the Big South Qualifier, and finished 5th at USA Nationals.  All those players went on to play in college (except "slim" who went to Notre Dame to study) including five D1 schools, three D2 schools, and one D3 school.   Please join us as we form up our new crop of stellar athletes.
