6th Grade Spring Training Team Rosters
The 6th grade tryout was a large group and we were only able to keep 32 of the 65 players who came to tryouts. 15 girls scored within 1 point of making a team this session. We hate to leave anyone out but we have to draw a line somewhere in order to have a good training session and scores of 12 out of 20 or better made the cut this time (high score was 17.5 which is very good). Please look for the summer schedule if you haven't been selected for this spring group. Many of you would have a great chance of making a summer or fall training team. Please keep an eye on our youth activities page for summer camps and leagues. Both are 1st come 1st serve. Training teams will still have tryouts. Anyone not listed below will have their checks voided and destroyed.
For those that were selected this time you should plan on being here for practice on Tuesday, March 18th from 4:40-6:30. The 6th grade teams will be treated as if they were JO teams preparing for tournaments. Practices will include individual and team concepts with scrimmage play being built in as we proceed. Your 6th grade trainers are accomplished coaches who have bought in to our mission of making better volleyball players outside the JO and school season. Sports Express is lucky to have them as a part of this activity.
Coach Amanda Schuler is the Varsity Head Coach at Kings High School and has coached 12 years of JO volleyball. She is the coach of both the U12 and U14 Sports Express JO teams and is a private instructor as well. Amanda will be assisted by Shelby Kies, a Libero at Kings High School.
Coach Lisa Mahlerwein is the Varsity Assistant at Ursuline Academy and has coached 10 seasons of JO volleyball. Lisa is the Express Training Coordinator and a manager at Sports Express. Lisa will be assisted by Lindsey Roy a senior all-around player from Ursuline Academy who will be attending South Carolina next season.
Practice issues: We will be using a 7'0" net with the regulation ball this session before you move all the way up to the 7'4" net this summer as an incoming 7th grader. If you are going to miss a practice it is not necessary to call each time but we'd like to hear from you if you must miss 2 practices in a row. We take teams in 16 player groups because we know players will be sick or have other commitments from time to time. We'd like to have at least 12-14 players at each practice for scrimmage and drill purposes. Players will receive team shirts during week 2. If you have additional questions, please call John Paul or Lisa at 398-2400.
